Ingredients

The tuna

  • 1 pound ahi tuna steaks
  • 2 tablespoons white sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • salt to taste salt
  • black pepper to taste black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

The sauce

  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil

The garnish

  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions or chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Mix black and white sesame seeds on a plate.
  2. Season the tuna steaks with salt and pepper.
  3. Press the sesame seeds onto the tuna to coat it.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over high heat.
  5. Sear the tuna steaks for 30-60 seconds on each side.
  6. Remove the tuna and let it rest for 3 minutes before slicing.
  7. Whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
  8. Drizzle the sauce over the sliced tuna and top with green onions or cilantro.
