Ingredients

The meatballs

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup grated onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste salt and black pepper

The casserole

  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • ½ cup ricotta cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, cheeses, egg, onion, garlic, parsley, and seasonings, mixing well.
  3. Use a cookie scoop to form about 15 to 16 large meatballs and arrange them on a baking dish.
  4. Bake the meatballs for 20 to 25 minutes until fully cooked, then drain excess grease.
  5. Arrange the cooked meatballs in a baking dish.
  6. Pour marinara sauce over the meatballs, add scoops of ricotta cheese, and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for about 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven, top with fresh basil, and serve.
