Ingredients

The cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup butter (at room temperature)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Cinnamon Sugar Topping/Filling

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  4. Mix in the sour cream and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Prepare the cinnamon sugar topping by mixing the sugars and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, sprinkle with half of the cinnamon sugar and half of the chocolate chips.
  8. Spread the remaining batter over the filling, then top with the rest of the cinnamon sugar and chocolate chips.
  9. Bake for about 40 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool to room temperature before serving.
