Ingredients

The cake

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional toppings

  • to taste chocolate buttercream

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare a 9-inch pie dish or round cake pan with nonstick spray.
  2. 2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth, then mix in the brown sugar until creamy.
  3. 3. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. 4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt, then gradually mix this into the wet ingredients until combined.
  5. 5. Fold in 1¼ cups of chocolate chips into the dough.
  6. 6. Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden brown.
  7. 7. Allow the cookie cake to cool completely before transferring it to a serving dish.
  8. 8. Optionally, decorate with chocolate buttercream and the remaining chocolate chips.
