Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF and grease a 9-inch square pan.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the egg to the butter and sugar mixture and mix on low until combined.
- Add half of the dry ingredients and mix until incorporated.
- Add all of the buttermilk and mix until incorporated.
- Add the remaining flour and whisk until just combined.
- Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
- For the topping, combine all topping ingredients in a large bowl and mix until well combined.
- Spread the topping over the batter.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the cake is set.
- Let cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before serving.
