The cake

The frosting

  • 3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 ½ recipes berry sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the dry ingredients and add the water, eggs, coconut oil, and vanilla. Mix until well blended.
  4. Distribute the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool before frosting.
