Brownie Caramel Pecan Cake

Ingredients

The cake

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 ⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

The caramel topping

  • 50 pieces caramel pieces
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ¾ cup pecan pieces
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a cake pan by greasing and dusting it with flour.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and water, cooking over low heat until it boils. Remove from heat and mix in chocolate chips until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt. Combine this with the chocolate mixture and stir well. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 20 minutes.
  4. While the cake bakes, prepare the caramel topping by microwaving unwrapped caramels, butter, and milk until smooth, stirring frequently.
  5. Once the cake is done, cool it for a few minutes, then spread the caramel topping over it. Sprinkle pecan pieces and chocolate chips on top and let it set for 1 hour.
