Ingredients

The meatballs

  • 1 large egg
  • cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons dried minced onion
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ lb 95% lean ground beef
  • ½ lb 99% lean ground turkey breast

The sauce and buns

  • 1 ¼ cups pasta sauce
  • 5 light hot dog buns light hot dog buns
  • 10 tablespoons shredded 2% Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, minced onion, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and water until combined.
  3. Add the ground beef and turkey, mixing with your hands until just combined.
  4. Divide the mixture into 15 equal portions and roll each into a ball, placing them on the baking sheet.
  5. Bake the meatballs for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
  6. While the meatballs bake, heat the pasta sauce in a saucepan over medium-low heat.
  7. Once the meatballs are done, combine them with the sauce.
  8. Switch the oven to broil and prepare a clean sheet pan for the buns.
  9. Fill each bun with 3 meatballs and ¼ cup of sauce, then top with 2 tablespoons of Mozzarella cheese.
  10. Broil for about 2 minutes until the cheese melts and the buns are toasted.
