Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare three 9-inch cake pans with grease and parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the cake flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Using a mixer, beat the butter and sugar until creamy, then add the eggs, egg whites, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk, and mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and bake for 23-26 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool completely in the pans on a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy, then add confectioners’ sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt, mixing until smooth.
- Level the cooled cake layers, then assemble by spreading frosting between the layers and covering the entire cake.
- Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 1 hour before slicing.
