Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
- Spread the cherry filling in the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Grate the butter into the dry ingredients and mix to coat the butter.
- Add chocolate chunks and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg, then add to the dry mixture and combine until just mixed.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, roll to about ½-inch thick, and cut into 12 pieces.
- Place the biscuit pieces over the cherry filling and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until biscuits are golden and filling is bubbling.
- Let cool for 30 minutes before serving warm with ice cream.
