Basic Homemade Bread

Instructions
- Proof the yeast in a mixer bowl with warm water and ½ Tbsp of sugar for 10 minutes.
- Add the remaining sugar, salt, milk, butter, and about 2/3 of the flour to the yeast mixture and mix well.
- Switch to a hook attachment and knead in the remaining flour until a soft, non-sticky dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in volume, about 1 to 1½ hours.
- Press the dough down, then shape it into a rectangle and roll it up into a log.
- Place the log into a greased loaf pan, cover, and let it rise until it is about 1½ to 2 inches above the pan, about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F near the end of the rising period.
- Bake the loaf until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped, about 35 to 42 minutes.
- Brush the top with butter and let cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
