Basic Homemade White Bread

Ingredients

  • ½ cup warm water
  • teaspoons active dry yeast
  • cup milk
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 5½-6 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water and yeast in a mixing bowl and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add milk, honey, melted butter, and salt to the yeast mixture and stir.
  3. Gradually add bread flour until a soft dough forms, mixing on low speed or by hand.
  4. Knead the dough for about 6-8 minutes on a floured surface.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1½ to 2 hours until doubled.
  6. Punch down the dough, divide it in half, and shape each half into a rectangle.
  7. Fold the dough and seal the edges, then place into greased loaf pans.
  8. Allow the dough to rise for another 30 minutes until it rises 1 inch above the pans.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-40 minutes, tenting with foil if browning too fast.
  10. Check for doneness with a thermometer; it should read 195°F to 200°F.
  11. Cool the bread, brush with butter, and enjoy.
