Instructions
- Cut the tempeh into bite-size chunks and steam for 10 minutes.
- While steaming, combine the sauce ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil, then set aside.
- If frying, mix tapioca starch, Chinese five spice, salt, and black pepper in a bowl, then coat the steamed tempeh pieces.
- Heat oil in a wok or deep frying pan to 340ºF and fry the tempeh until crispy and golden brown, about 3 minutes.
- Transfer the fried tempeh back to the wok, pour in the sauce, stir well, and simmer briefly.
- Serve with cooked jasmine rice and steamed broccoli, or your favorite sides.
