Easy Homemade Refried Beans

Instructions
- Soak the dried beans overnight in water.
- Drain the soaked beans and place them in a large pot with fresh water, salt, spices, and bay leaves.
- Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer until the beans are tender, about 1½ to 2 hours.
- Drain the beans, reserving some cooking liquid, and remove the bay leaves.
- Mash the beans with a potato masher or puree in a food processor, adding reserved liquid to achieve desired consistency.
- Stir in olive oil for extra richness and flavor.
- Keep warm until ready to serve, or refrigerate or freeze for later use.
