Ingredients

Brown Butter Crust

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Pecan Pie Topping

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 3 cups coarsely chopped shelled pecans
  • to taste coarse sea salt or flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Brown the butter in a skillet, then let it cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Mix the brown butter with sugar, vanilla, and salt, then stir in the flour and press into the baking pan.
  4. Bake the crust for 15 minutes.
  5. Prepare the topping by combining butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and cream in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  6. Temper the eggs by slowly adding a portion of the hot mixture to them, then combine back into the saucepan.
  7. Stir in the pecans and pour the mixture over the pre-baked crust.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until set, then cool completely before cutting into squares.
