Ingredients

The potatoes

  • 2 pounds red potatoes
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 2 leaves bay leaves

Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

The mixture

  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup milk

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the red potatoes into even pieces and add them to a large pot with the garlic.
  2. Cover the potatoes and garlic with water, then add the bay leaves and salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  4. Drain the potatoes and discard the bay leaves.
  5. Use a potato masher to mash the potatoes and garlic to your desired consistency.
  6. Stir in the remaining salt and pepper.
  7. Add the butter and mash until fully incorporated.
  8. Gradually stir in the milk, ¼ cup at a time, until the desired consistency is achieved.
