Ingredients

The dough

  • ¾ cup warm water
  • teaspoons granulated sugar
  • teaspoons active dry yeast
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

The dogs

  • 20 mini cocktail wieners
  • 3–4 slices cheese (preferably American or cheddar)
  • 8 cups water
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • to taste coarse salt

Instructions

  1. Make the dough by combining warm water and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter, then knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the dogs by slicing the wieners and stuffing them with cheese.
  5. Preheat the oven and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 20 pieces, rolling each into a rope to wrap around the cheese-stuffed dogs.
  7. Boil water with baking soda and briefly boil each wrapped dog before placing them on the baking sheet.
  8. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt before baking until golden brown.
