Ingredients

The base

  • 1 lb Ground Italian sausage

The vegetables

  • 1 large Bell pepper (cut into thin 1-2-inch strips; half red & half yellow)
  • 8 oz Cremini mushrooms (sliced)

The sauce and cheese

  • 1 cup Marinara sauce
  • 1 ½ cups Mozzarella cheese (shredded)

The toppings

  • 1 ½ oz Pepperoni slices

Instructions

  1. 1. Heat a 10-inch cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and cook the ground sausage for 8-10 minutes until browned.
  2. 2. Preheat the oven to the Broil setting towards the end of cooking the sausage.
  3. 3. Reduce heat to medium, push the sausage to the edges, and add the mushrooms and bell peppers to the center. Cook for 5-8 minutes until softened.
  4. 4. Turn off the heat and pour the marinara sauce over the sausage and veggies, smoothing it out.
  5. 5. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella on top and arrange the pepperoni slices.
  6. 6. Transfer the skillet to the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and browned.
