Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

Ingredients

  • 14 ounces pizza dough
  • 1 link plant-based Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup grated mozzarella cheese or cashew cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped red onion
  • ½ 14-ounce can artichoke hearts
  • cup roasted red peppers and/or roasted tomatoes
  • to taste pesto
  • to taste fresh basil leaves
  • to taste red pepper flakes
  • to drizzle extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Cut the plant-based sausage into small pieces and cook in a small cast-iron skillet until browned.
  3. Press the pizza dough into a dry 10-inch cast iron skillet, creating a thicker rim for the crust.
  4. Prick the stretched dough with a fork and heat the skillet on the stove for 2 minutes.
  5. Brush the crust with olive oil, then spread cashew cream or sprinkle grated mozzarella on top.
  6. Add the cooked sausage, red onion, artichokes, red peppers, and/or tomatoes as toppings.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Top with dollops of pesto, a drizzle of olive oil, fresh basil, and red pepper flakes before serving.
