Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • 3 cups flour, plus extra for rolling

Frosting

  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • ¼ cup Crisco (or butter)
  • cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (or milk)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream together butter and sugar for the cookies.
  2. Beat in eggs, sour cream, and vanilla.
  3. Add baking soda, baking powder, and flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Cover and refrigerate the dough for 4-6 hours.
  5. Roll out the dough to ¼ inch thick on a floured surface.
  6. Cut into small circles (2½ inches in diameter) and bake at 425°F for 3-4 minutes.
  7. Allow cookies to cool before frosting.
  8. For the frosting, beat together all ingredients with an electric mixer until smooth.
  9. Let the frosting set lightly after a few hours.
