Ingredients

Sugar Cookies

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg white
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cup powdered sugar

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk or cream
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a pinch salt
  • optional food coloring

Optional Toppings

  • to taste sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a baking sheet.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg white and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll spoonfuls of dough in powdered sugar to coat and form balls.
  7. Flatten each dough ball to about ½-inch thick on the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes until set and lightly golden.
  9. Cool the cookies before frosting.
  10. For the frosting, beat softened butter and mix in powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  11. Frost the cooled cookies and top with sprinkles.
