Ingredients

The Meatballs

  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 slice white sandwich bread
  • 8 ounces ground beef
  • 8 ounces ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, grated
  • teaspoon ground allspice
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

The Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon beef base
  • 1 cup heavy cream

For Serving

  • to taste mashed potatoes or buttered egg noodles
  • to taste cranberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare baking sheets with foil and nonstick spray.
  2. In a bowl, mash the egg, cream, and bread to form a paste.
  3. Mix in the ground beef, ground pork, grated onion, spices, and seasoning.
  4. Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on the baking sheets.
  5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  6. In a skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour to create a roux.
  7. Add chicken broth, brown sugar, and beef base, then bring to a boil and simmer.
  8. Stir in heavy cream and return to a simmer.
  9. Add the meatballs to the gravy and simmer until heated through.
  10. Serve with mashed potatoes or noodles and cranberries.
