Ingredients

The rice

  • 1 cup long grain brown rice

The water

  • 2 cups water (for simmer method)
  • 6 cups water (for boil method)

The oil

  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil

Optional toppings

  • to taste fresh chopped cilantro, parsley, or chives

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. For the simmer method, combine water, rinsed rice, and olive oil in a pot, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover, simmering for 40-45 minutes.
  3. Once cooked, remove from heat and let sit covered for 10 minutes, then fluff with a fork and add herbs if desired.
  4. For the boil and drain method, bring water and olive oil to a boil, add rinsed rice, and boil uncovered for about 30 minutes.
  5. Drain excess water, return rice to the pot, cover, and let sit for 10 minutes, then fluff with a fork and add herbs if desired.
