The rice

The cooking liquid

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse the uncooked brown rice in a fine mesh strainer until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, and olive oil.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover.
  4. Simmer for about 45 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  5. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
  6. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
