Ingredients

The rice

  • 1 ½ cups brown rice

The cooking liquid

  • 2 ⅓ cups water
  • 2 teaspoons unsalted butter or vegetable oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and adjust the oven rack to the middle position.
  2. 2. Spread the brown rice in an 8-inch square baking dish.
  3. 3. Bring the water and butter or oil to a boil, then stir in the salt and pour it over the rice.
  4. 4. Cover the baking dish tightly with two layers of foil.
  5. 5. Bake in the oven for about 1 hour until the rice is tender.
  6. 6. Remove from the oven, fluff the rice with a fork, then cover with a kitchen towel for 5 minutes.
  7. 7. Uncover and let it stand for an additional 5 minutes before serving.
