Ingredients

The rice

  • 1 cup brown rice

The water

  • 6 cups water

Seasonings

  • to taste salt, soy sauce or other desired seasonings

Instructions

  1. 1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil with at least 6 cups of water for every cup of rice.
  2. 2. Rinse the rice in a fine mesh colander under running water to remove excess starch.
  3. 3. Add the rinsed rice to the boiling water and reduce the temperature as necessary to maintain a steady boil.
  4. 4. Boil uncovered for 30 minutes.
  5. 5. Drain the remaining cooking water and return the rice to the pot.
  6. 6. Cover the pot and let the rice rest off the heat for 10 minutes.
  7. 7. Fluff the rice, season as desired, and serve.
