Ingredients

The rice and seasonings

  • 2 cups long grain brown rice
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper (optional)
  • ¾ tsp salt

The liquid

  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Combine the rice, garlic powder, thyme, crushed red pepper, salt, and water in a heavy-bottomed pot.
  2. Stir briefly to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  3. Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil over high heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 40 minutes.
  5. After 40 minutes, turn off the heat and let it rest with the lid on for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Fluff the rice and serve, or refrigerate until ready to eat.
