Ingredients

The strawberries

  • pounds strawberries

The chocolate

  • 12 ounces chocolate chips or candy melts
  • 2 teaspoons shortening (only if using chocolate chips)

The toppings

  • assorted miniature chocolate chips, sprinkles, or nuts (optional)
  • additional chocolate for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate or candy melts in microwave-safe bowls, adding shortening if using chocolate chips.
  2. Microwave in 30-second increments until just melted and stir until smooth.
  3. Dip each strawberry in the melted chocolate, turning to coat completely.
  4. If using toppings, roll the wet strawberries in the toppings.
  5. Place the coated strawberries on a sheet of parchment or waxed paper to dry.
  6. For a chocolate drizzle, melt an additional ⅓ cup of chocolate and place it in a resealable bag.
  7. Snip the tip of the bag and drizzle the chocolate over the dried strawberries.
  8. Let the strawberries harden completely before serving or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
