Ingredients

The greens

  • 1 pound collard greens, washed, trimmed and chopped

The base

  • 8 ounces turkey bacon or bacon of choice, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar

The seasonings

  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds
  • 1 teaspoon honey or sweetener of choice
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Spray the slow cooker with cooking spray and set it to sauté.
  2. Cook the bacon for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the onion and cook for an additional 8 minutes.
  4. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the slow cooker and switch to slow cooker mode.
  6. Add chicken broth, collard greens, apple cider vinegar, Old Bay seasoning, celery seeds, honey, crushed red pepper flakes, black pepper, and sea salt.
  7. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours until the greens are tender.
