Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and prepare your baking pan.
- Whisk together the buttermilk and egg in one bowl and the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in another.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles pea-sized crumbs, then stir in the raisins.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients, gently folding until the dough is too stiff to stir.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead briefly until all flour is moistened.
- Shape the dough into a ball and score the top with a shallow cut or 'X'.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden brown and a thermometer reads 195°F (90°C) in the center.
- Let the bread cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
