Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a cast-iron skillet with butter.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
- Cut cold butter into small pieces and mix into the flour until crumbly.
- Add raisins to the mixture, breaking up any clumps.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg.
- Make a well in the flour mixture and pour in the buttermilk mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
- Place the loaf in the skillet and score the top with a deep 'X'.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes until hollow when tapped or reaches an internal temperature of 180°F.
- Cool on a wire rack and serve warm.
