Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
- Whisk together the flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, and currants if using.
- In a medium bowl, beat the egg and buttermilk, then add the melted butter and stir.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients until mixed; the dough will be sticky.
- Grease a skillet with softened butter and shape the dough into a ball.
- Transfer the dough to the skillet, sprinkle with flour, and score the top with an X.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until golden and hollow sounding when tapped.
- Let cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
