Fall Apple Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

The burgers

  • 2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 large apple (honey crisp or preferred variety)
  • ¼ cup yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • optional cheddar cheese slices

Caramelized onions

  • 1 large yellow onion (sliced thin)
  • 2 tbsp avocado oil or butter
  • ½ tsp salt

Toppings

  • more slices apple (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground turkey, shredded apple, shredded onion, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  2. Mix until well combined, preferably using your hands.
  3. Form the mixture into patties, using about ½ cup of meat for each.
  4. Heat a large skillet with 2 tbsp of avocado oil over medium heat and add the patties.
  5. Cook for 5 minutes, flip, and cover for an additional 5 minutes to ensure they cook through. Repeat until all burgers are cooked.
  6. In a separate pan, heat 2 tbsp of avocado oil or butter for the caramelized onions.
  7. Add sliced onions and salt, cooking over medium heat while stirring until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  8. Assemble the burgers with apple slices and caramelized onions on top.
