Ingredients

The brownie batter

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 ounces bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup + 2 Tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional toppings

  • as desired ice cream
  • as desired salted caramel sauce
  • as desired hot fudge sauce

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter, oil, chocolate, and sugar in a saucepan or microwave until smooth.
  2. Pour the melted mixture into a mixing bowl and let it cool slightly.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
  4. Whisk in the eggs and vanilla into the cooled chocolate mixture.
  5. Stir in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt until combined, then fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared skillet and sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
  7. Bake for 30-36 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Let the brownie cool for 5 minutes before serving.
