Easy Hollandaise Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • ½ Tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • tsp salt
  • tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Separate the egg and place the yolk in a small saucepot, saving the whites for another use.
  2. Add water and lemon juice to the pot with the yolk and whisk until smooth without heat.
  3. Cut butter into small pieces and add to the pot with the yolk mixture.
  4. Place the pot over medium-low heat and continuously whisk as the mixture heats.
  5. Whisk until the butter melts and the sauce begins to froth, then thickens to a gravy-like consistency.
  6. Once thickened, remove from heat and season with salt and cayenne.
  7. Drizzle the sauce over your favorite dishes.
