Ingredients

The donuts

  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

The topping

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon apple pie spice
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Simmer the apple cider in a small saucepan until reduced to about ½ cup, then cool.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a donut pan.
  3. Whisk together the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients.
  5. Combine the wet and dry mixtures until smooth.
  6. Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each about halfway.
  7. Bake for about 12 minutes until lightly browned.
  8. Cool the donuts on a wire rack.
  9. Prepare the topping by mixing sugar, cinnamon, and apple pie spice in one bowl and melted butter in another.
  10. Dip each donut in melted butter and roll in the sugar mixture before serving.
