Ingredients

The crust and sauce

  • 1 lb. pizza dough
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 2/3 cups canned San Marzano tomatoes
  • 2 pinches salt

The toppings

  • 8 oz. fresh mozzarella
  • ¼ cup small basil leaves or chopped basil ribbons

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 550 degrees and place a pizza stone inside to rest for 45-60 minutes.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes and salt, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until thickened.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal portions and stretch each into an oval shape.
  5. On a floured pizza peel, spread about ½ cup of sauce on one crust and sprinkle with half the mozzarella.
  6. Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated stone and bake until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  7. Repeat with the second crust, then sprinkle both pizzas with fresh basil and serve immediately.
