Ingredients

The pizza base

  • 1 pound Pizza Dough
  • Cornmeal for stretching the dough

The sauce

  • 1 28-ounce can whole San Marzano tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 small garlic cloves
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

The toppings

  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Red pepper flakes
  • extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 500°F.
  2. In a food processor, blend the canned tomatoes with their juices, olive oil, garlic, and salt until smooth.
  3. Dust a baking sheet with cornmeal and stretch the pizza dough into a large oval on it.
  4. Spread a heaping ½ cup of the tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.
  5. Top with mozzarella and transfer the pizza to the oven.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the crust is browned.
  7. Remove from the oven and add fresh basil, red pepper flakes, and drizzle with olive oil before serving.
