Ingredients

The sauce

  • 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup canned whole tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, sliced thin
  • ¼ teaspoon oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • to taste salt & pepper

The pizza

  • 1 12-inch Boboli Whole Wheat Thin Pizza Crust
  • 4 oz fresh part skim mozzarella, sliced about ¼ inch thick
  • 8-10 leaves fresh basil, whole
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Heat olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat and add minced garlic, cooking until golden.
  3. Blend canned tomatoes and tomato paste in a blender until smooth.
  4. Combine the blended tomato sauce with sliced basil, oregano, sugar, bay leaf, salt, and pepper in the saucepan.
  5. Simmer the sauce uncovered for about 15 minutes until thickened, then remove the bay leaf.
  6. Spread the sauce evenly over the pizza crust, leaving a ½ inch edge.
  7. Lay mozzarella slices on top of the sauce and add whole basil leaves.
  8. Sprinkle Italian seasoning over the pizza.
  9. Bake the pizza on a foil-covered baking sheet, pizza stone, or directly on the oven rack for 8-10 minutes.
