Ingredients

The brownies

  • 1 cup salted butter, melted and cooled to lukewarm
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

The chocolate frosting

  • 10 tablespoons butter, softened
  • cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon espresso powder (optional)
  • a pinch salt
  • ¼ cup milk (any percentage, plus more as needed)
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or foil.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until mixed.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, beating until well combined.
  4. Stir in the flour, sifted cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 27-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Allow the brownies to cool completely before frosting.
  8. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy.
  9. Add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, optional espresso powder, and salt, mixing well.
  10. Add milk as needed to reach the desired consistency.
  11. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies and add sprinkles if desired.
  12. Slice and enjoy!
