Ingredients

The pork

  • 4 lb Boneless pork shoulder

The spices

  • 1 tbsp Smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp Sea salt
  • 2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Cayenne pepper

The cooking ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion (diced)
  • 1 cup Beef bone broth
  • ¼ cup Apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup Coconut aminos
  • ½ tsp Blackstrap molasses (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the trimmed pork dry and season with spices, letting it sit for 20 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a Dutch oven and sear the pork until browned on all sides.
  3. Place diced onion in the slow cooker.
  4. Whisk together broth, coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, and molasses.
  5. Put the pork roast into the slow cooker and pour the broth mixture around it.
  6. Cook on low for 10-12 hours until tender.
  7. Transfer the pork to a bowl and shred it with two forks.
  8. Strain the onions from the cooking liquid and pour the liquid over the shredded pork.
