Instructions
- Prepare the crust by mixing flour, salt, and sugar, then cutting in the butter until crumbly.
- Add ice water until the dough is moistened, then knead lightly and refrigerate.
- For the filling, mix sliced apples with brown sugar, vanilla, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour.
- Roll out the dough into a circle and place it on a baking sheet.
- Spread almond butter mixture (if using) over the crust.
- Arrange the apple filling in a circle, leaving a border, and fold the edges over the filling.
- Brush the edges with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake at 400°F for 30-40 minutes until the apples are tender and the crust is golden.
- Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
