Ingredients

Crust

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • ¼ cup ice-cold water
  • 1 large egg beaten with milk for egg wash
  • optional coarse sugar

Filling

  • 3–4 apples, peeled and sliced
  • ¼ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • optional salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust by mixing flour, sugar, and salt, then cutting in the butter until crumbly.
  2. Add ice-cold water and mix until the dough forms, then shape into a disc and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Make the filling by combining sliced apples, brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  4. Roll out the chilled dough into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface and place it on a baking sheet.
  5. Arrange the apple filling in the center, leaving a 2–3 inch border, then fold the edges of the dough over the filling.
  6. Brush the edges with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  7. Chill the shaped galette for 15–20 minutes while preheating the oven to 400°F (204°C).
  8. Bake for about 35–36 minutes until the filling is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving, optionally with vanilla ice cream and salted caramel.
