Ingredients

The brisket

  • 2 ½ – 5 pound brisket

The seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoon brown sugar or sweetener
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

The liquid

  • ½ cup broth
  • to taste none BBQ sauce (optional for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Season all sides of the brisket with the spices.
  2. Optional: Sear the brisket in a skillet with olive oil until a golden-brown crust forms.
  3. Add the broth to the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Place the seasoned brisket in the slow cooker.
  5. Cover and slow cook for 8 to 10 hours on low heat or 4 to 6 hours on high heat.
  6. Allow the meat to rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
  7. Glaze with BBQ sauce if desired.
