Slow Cooker Beef Brisket

Ingredients

The rub

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon salt

The brisket

  • 5 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce
  • as needed serving Texas toast or rolls
  • as needed serving coleslaw or red cabbage and scallions

Instructions

  1. 1. Whisk together the rub ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. 2. Rub the mixture all over the brisket and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  3. 3. Place the brisket in the slow cooker and cover it.
  4. 4. Cook on HIGH for 8 to 10 hours.
  5. 5. Preheat the oven broiler on HIGH.
  6. 6. Remove the brisket from the slow cooker and place it on a baking sheet.
  7. 7. Brush the brisket with barbecue sauce on all sides.
  8. 8. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce is sticky and bubbly.
  9. 9. Let the brisket rest under foil for 10 minutes before slicing.
  10. 10. Serve on Texas toast or rolls with coleslaw or red cabbage and scallions.
