Ingredients

The apple mixture

  • 4 pounds honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and quartered
  • 1 ½ cups sweetened apple cider
  • ½ cup water
  • Juice of 1 lemon

The sweetening and spices

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine the apples, apple cider, water, and lemon juice in a large Dutch oven.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower to a simmer and cover.
  3. Cook for about 30 minutes or until the apples are mushy, then puree with an immersion blender.
  4. Stir in the sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Cook on medium-low heat uncovered for about an hour, stirring frequently until thickened.
  6. Allow to cool and store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
