Instructions
- Combine apple slices and apple cider in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
- Cover and reduce heat to medium-low, then simmer until apples are very soft, about 30 to 35 minutes.
- Transfer the softened apples to a food processor and blend until smooth.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the apple puree with granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, and salt.
- Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat until it thickens and browns, about 60 to 90 minutes.
- Transfer the apple butter to a jar and let it cool to room temperature before refrigerating.
