Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, diced into 1 Tbsp pieces
  • 1 cup buttermilk, well chilled
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted (for brushing tops, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  3. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe dish until about 3/4 melted, then stir to melt fully.
  4. Whisk the buttermilk into the melted butter until the mixture appears lumpy.
  5. Pour the buttermilk mixture into the well of the dry ingredients and fold until just incorporated.
  6. Spray a 1/4-cup measuring cup with non-stick spray, scoop the dough, and drop onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 1 1/2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Brush with melted butter and serve warm.
