Ginger Sesame Chicken

Ingredients

The chicken

  • 1 lb raw boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces

The sauce

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon light maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon dry wine (sherry or Riesling)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger root, minced
  • ½ teaspoon five spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

Optional side

  • 3 cups cooked brown rice

Instructions

  1. Toast the sesame seeds in a skillet over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes, then set aside.
  2. Mix the water, soy sauce, maple syrup, wine, ginger, and five spice in a bowl.
  3. Combine flour, salt, and pepper in a Ziploc bag, add chicken, and shake to coat.
  4. Heat sesame oil in the skillet, add chicken, and cook until browned (about 5 minutes).
  5. Pour the sauce over the chicken, stir to coat, and cook until thickened.
  6. Add toasted sesame seeds and stir to combine. Serve over cooked rice if desired.
