Ingredients

The sauce

  • tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp finely minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp finely minced, peeled fresh ginger
  • ½ cup low-sodium chicken broth, divided
  • cup honey
  • Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch

The chicken

  • lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced into 1-inch pieces
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 2 large egg whites
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp white or black pepper
  • 3 Tbsp extra-light olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 Tbsp white sesame seeds
  • 3 stalks green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce by heating sesame oil in a saucepan, then adding garlic and ginger.
  2. Stir in chicken broth, honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar, bringing to a boil.
  3. Whisk remaining chicken broth with cornstarch and add to the sauce, boiling for 1 minute.
  4. In a bowl, whisk cornstarch, egg whites, salt, and pepper, then coat the chicken pieces.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet and cook half the chicken until golden brown, then transfer to a plate.
  6. Repeat cooking with remaining chicken, then return all chicken to the pan and add the sauce.
  7. Toss to coat and sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
